Education philosophy of Weiming
Integrating Chinese and western advantages in order to educate and develop the students into “modern elites with a soul of the Chinese tradition and international vision.
1. Meaning of the name-Weiming
The pronunciation is similar to Weiming Lake which is a famous scenery spot in the Peking University campus. It also has another meaning “Everything is for students’ future”.
2. Education Purpose
Establishing a new education model which combines both advantages from American and Chinese Education, and developing students into modern elites with a soul of Chinese tradition and international vision.
Principal explained: “Education industry seems very special in Chinese society. It is protected and supported by the government; however, it cannot satisfy with the needs of society development. There are a lot of elites who have graduated from excellent public schools located in the USA, the UK. Nevertheless, it is a big challenge for Weiming to establish a private school in China. Weiming stresses the advantages of Chinese traditional culture and modern education thoughts of American. In other words, we try to help students with their awareness of honesty, kindness, love, generosity. At the same time, we also intend to promote students’ independent learning ability and the spirit of exploration.”
3. Teaching belief-- “Work hard and educate with love”
Principal stated: “Love and responsibility are considered as the core value . We believe that a person who takes responsibility for students with love could be a qualified teacher. Among the standers of choosing our staff, love and responsibility comes first.”
4. Individual learning
Principal stated: “One of the disadvantages of Chinese education could be considered as teachers taking all responsibility for students. We advocated developing students’ individual autonomy. We believe that individual learning ability and spirit of exploration could be one of the significant purposes of education.”
5. Studying and learning is for the development of our motherland.
The Principal came up with an example we must remember: “ when Premier Zhou was 12 years old, he decided to study hard for developing this country due to the tragic tribulation of people who lived in the region that was colonized by other countries in the late 19th century and early 20th century.” Even if we have a good life now, we are still developing and improving our education will further this development.
6. Developing Strategy
As the Principal stated, private schools could share Chinese education market thanks to its significant and special value. It could be a long-term developing strategy for Weiming Education Group which provides high standard quality education, including feature course and international class for students. We respect the spirit of “Dare to explore new things” in order to adapt Chinese Education market. Thus, we aim to share Chinese education market by our high standard quality and education resources, and our creative educational thoughts.
7. Developing Plan
The Principal said: “We established one -stop school which include primary, junior and high school. Primary courses must have distinctive features, focusing on moral education, curriculum development, in terms of emotion and intelligent training, special talents training (STT) courses, foreign oral English courses, in order to have a good preparation for junior study. Junior school not only has to enforce these features courses which primary school adopted, but also has to ensure the high quality of candidates when given them offers. Besides, we divided students into different classes, such as international classes, “Sun rising” classes and art classes, according to their superiorities in different areas. We aim to help students to gain a high score in Chinese college entrance examination, and set up a good reputation of “Weiming Education”.
8. Management philosophy---To be strict, reasonable, inspiring and growing
The Principal declared: “Being strict means establishing a high requirement by a gentle attitude instead of being harsh. Being reasonable means letting people learn something from thinking and their past experience. Inspiring not only means appreciation, but also indicates when other people meet tough situations give them encouragement and help. Growing could be considered as the philosophy of the world and the way of thinking.
9. Management requirement----high standard
The Principal said: “The quality of education and the reputation are the most significant factors for a school. We will never be satisfied with the current condition. There is a big gap between our school and the top class schools in the world. Thus, we must have a strict requirement for our employees, and our teachers must have a high standard to evaluate our students.
10. Curriculum design philosophy
The quality of education will reflect on the curriculum design. A lot of schools did not design their course according to the document which focuses on curriculum reform published by the Chinese Ministry of Education approximately ten years ago. Weiming Education Group believed that each course must have its’ own distinguishing feature, no matter compulsory courses and specialty courses. Compulsory courses, such like Chinese language, Math, English must give an expression of Weiming’s educational thoughts. We hope our students could choose a specialty course to learn which they are interested in when they are in primary school, and then they could master one or two specialties when they graduate.
11. Class teaching object
The Principal stated: “Weiming Education Group no longer follows Chinese traditional education theory, when the teacher decides what students will learn, how students will learn. We believe that students should be active learners instead of passive learners. The role of teacher and teachers also changed. In other words, a teacher is a spark who accompanies students to study, and students should be independent, deep learners.
12. The quality of Education （healthy confidence，broad view，willing to learn）
“What kind of people do we want? How to evaluate the result of our education? Based on the view of comprehensive development in physique, moral and intelligence, we further highlight these points in a different area.
“Physical and moral health” are the basic points of human being—participate in sports activities for one hour every day; “be confident” is the center of emotional intelligence—to be successful and happy in life we need emotional intelligence, and the core of this kind of intelligence includes the open-minded attitude and self-confidence; “broad view” supplement for the inadequacy of traditional education—practice is as important as learning; “willing to learn” is the target of education. Regardless of the intelligence quotient inherited from our parents, and not everyone can go to the famous universities, willing to learn can make people do their best.
